Research Objectives
The main objective of the project was the planning, development and pilot application of a system that automatically provides a tour of a museum and/or of an exhibition spaces. For the pilot application, the Pierides Museum in Larnaca, Cyprus was selected.
The NEMO system computes in real time the location of a visitor-user within a predefined physical space and simultaneously (in real time) and enables the presentation of digital content, in reference to the physical position of the visitor. The Systems offers the following capabilities:
• Retrieval of Multimedia Exhibits by the user-visitor
• Interactive tours in the site (both predefined and free tours) with embedded audio – video and text based information.
• Retrieval of information in different levels (of the application) according to the time that user-visitor has for touring within the physical site.
Τhe project consists of:
• The development and implementation of the technological study that concerns in general architecture of the system, the description of the support software application, the supply of equipment and hardware, and finally the installation of the System.
• The development of a script/strategy of a conducted tour, in order to ensure that apart from the interactivity and the immediate retrieval of information from the visitor, the cohesion of the content is secured (and therefore there is minimum possibility of a fragmentary presentation of the content).
• The development of a study for managing the content based on the technological study and the script/strategy of the conducted tour.
• The digitalization of the content (text or audio) according to the System requirements and the physical space (museum collection).
The project is not only technologically innovative but can also be expanded immediately (in terms of technological solution and content management) in commercial applications, contributing in the creation of a new approach in the management, projection and presentation of various “collections”, in easy and individualized way.
